If you do not recognize that there are two editions of Windows XP. You probably have Home edition at home except you ordered PC with Professional edition. At work you have Home or Pro but probably Pro. A fast method to check is to click on Start button and read where it says Windows XP along side. If you have Home edition it will shows Windows XP. The Professional version shows Windows XP Professional.
The difference between two is Windows XP Professional has more enhanced aspects utilized principally in a work situation with networked PCs. There are some features XP Pro has that Home does not.
• Remote Desktop – distantly access Windows XP Professional PC, from other Windows PC.
• Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5.1 – host own Web site on Internet or your intranet.
• Offline Files and Folders - access to files & folders on a network share when detached from server
• Multiple processor support – up to two-way multi-processor support
• Centralized administration - connect Windows XP Professional systems to a Windows Server domain.
• Roaming User Profiles - access to all documents and settings no issue where you log on.
