The simplest solution is that you are playing Spider Solitaire in Easy mode. If you look closely, you'll notice that rather than the Hearts and Diamonds suits being coloured red, all the cards are from the same suit - Spades to be precise. This is because the Easy level of Spider Solitaire only uses one suit (though it's still hard enough for us). Press F2 to start a new game and select Medium or Difficult to use more suits.
If the red suits are black then it may be that one of the Solitaire program files has been damaged. Reinstalling the Windows games may solve the problem but you will need a Windows XP disc. Left-click on the Start Button and then on Control Panel. Left-click on Add or Remove Programs or double-click if you are using the Classic view. Left click on the Add/Remove Windows Components icon on the left hand side so that the Windows Components Wizard appears. Left-click on Accessories and Utilities and then on the Details button. Repeat for the Games entry. Click in the boxes labelled Solitaire and Spider Solitaire and click on OK twice, followed by Next and then Finish. Repeat the instructions but this time click in the Solitaire boxes so that a tick appears and insert the Windows XP disc when requested.
It may be easier to install a replacement for Windows Solitaire if you do not have a Windows disc. 123 Free Solitaire has 12 games including the Spider Solitaire and Klondike solitaire found with Windows.
