Thread: why wont xp install?

Im trying to install winows xp pro on my dell xps 720. It goes through most of the install after i install the raid drivers ect, but after it installs winows when it re-boots for the final time and attempts to load winows i get an error message (0x0000007b)Remove any newly installed hard drives, check hard drive controllers, make sure there formatted and terminated properly. Vista OS's and Linux OS's will go on and work perfectly but XP wont and I already tried swaping drivesSuggestions please!Geforce 8800 UltraAgeia Physics CardQuad-Core Processor nvidia 630i motherboard2gig-memory2 WD 500GB internal hdd1 WD 165GB internal hdd

From what I read, if you have Vista, you can not go back to Win-XP.

This is a fairly common error. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103 thats microsoft's solution, otherwise I would use google.com. just search for 0x000007b or whatever.

I think that you will need to pre install the drivers for your hard drive before installing xp. You can install over vista, but I think your just adding another os. I'm pretty sure you can do it, I'm not 100% sure that you have enough hard drive to do it here for one. I think you will find that xp is a bit cranky with ide to mother board chipsets.
