Decreasing Download speed in Windows XP

Windows 7 is running on my pc. My PC is connected to a broadband Internet connection which is provided by the Cable Modem. Newly I purchased a new Asus laptop which is installed with Windows XP. I purchased a Wireless router to share the relation between two systems. I have connected the router to the modem and enabled the WAN feature. The difficulty is whenever I access Internet from the laptop, the download speed shrinks. I can’t figure out what the problem is as I don’t have knowledge about networking. The router is Linksys. Any help would be highly appreciated.

    1) Try to do full power cycle and then see if the problem continues or not. Some moments when the devices are connected to the network via a wireless connection, a connection to the network, but can not use all the resources of the network. This problem is due to incorrect detection devices that can be solved by following the cycle of full power. To do a full power cycle: --

    1. Disconnect all the devices which are attached to the network.

    2. Disconnect all the connecting cables.

    3. Attach all the cables correctly.

    4. Now first start the modem and let it steady.

    5. Once the modem steady, power on the Router and let it stabilize.

    6. Once router stabilizes, institute the system one by one.

confidently doing a Full power cycle will resolve the problem.
