If you plan to upgrade hard drive, you are possibly looking for method to obtain Windows XP on new drive without having to totally reinstall all. Easy solution to this is to clone hard drive.
Instructions
Step 1
Install cloning software like Norton Ghost. There are freeware packages out there that do similar thing, but ensure that any software package you utilize has good reviews.
Step 2
Include new tough disk to PC. Switch off PC and establish hard compel as secondary drive.
Step 3
Restart PC and follow instructions to enter BIOS. New drive must display below slot you installed it, e.g. Primary master/slave or secondary master/slave, and show full size of drive.
Step 4
Run cloning software. Follow commands with cloning software. Opt old drive as source and new drive as target. Check BIOS settings if confused with which is new drive.
Step 5
Turn off PC after cloning is completed. Change old drive with new drive. See top of motherboard or on new hard drive for jumper settings precise for PC. There must be one listed for master and other for slave. Set right jumper setting for every drive.
Step 6
Reboot PC again. If PC detects new cloned hard drive, Windows XP must boot up as usual. If it does not detect hard drive automatically, go back to BIOS and select it.
Step 7
Check new hard disk to ensure that all copied over appropriately.
