In XP, laptop screens are adjustable in two ways. Checking these adjustment settings is easy as they are all built into Microsoft's "Display Properties" tool. After display properties are open on screen, adjust laptop monitor to fit personal preference. The suggested settings are default ones, but if you or somebody else has ever changed settings, you want to alter settings for better picture quality.

Right click desktop and choose "Properties". Open "Settings" tab and adjust laptop monitor settings in "Screen resolution" and "Color quality" sectors. Higher screen resolution and color quality setting, better picture quality.Click "Apply" to set changes. If window shows asking whether you want to save settings, click "Yes" to keep changes or "No" to abandon them. Click "OK" to close.
