Thread: Can’t store any settings on Windows XP

I have Windows XP Pro and it doesn’t save my screen resolution, screensaver, and modified settings are unsaved. Can anybody tell me why I am not able to save any settings? Any help will be appreciated.

To solve this problem do the steps given below:

1. Open regedit and check DWORD value NoSaveSettings in following keys:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer

• HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Policies\Explorer
•HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Policies\Explorer

• HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\C urrentVersion\Program Manager\Restrictions

DWORD value should be most likely in last one.

2. Remove DWORD value and reboot PC. Now Windows will bale keep in mind desktop settings.
