Thread: boot.ini file is missing

I am having the system which has the Windows XP OS. Whenever I boot my PC I get this error message: Unmountable boot volume. I can’t figure out why I am facing such problems and hence need your help in solving the issue. Please suggest some solutions.

This error comes because of your boot.ini file is missing from system. Here is a possible solution:

• Boot your system with the Windows XP CD.

• Then you get the "Welcome to setup" message, press the letter 'R' for Recovery Console.

• Choose the Windows installation to be repaired.

• After that get a DOS prompt. then, type: chkdsk /p and press Enter

• When that is done type: fixboot and press Enter

• Type: Y at the next prompt and press Enter

• After that type: exit and press Enter

• The system will now restart into Windows.
