Want to switch users without going near the Start button? There are two ways. Windows key & L takes you straight to the Welcome screen. If you're logged on with administrator privileges and another user is logged on, then you can bypass the Welcome screen. Press Ctl & Alt & Delete to bring up the Task Manager, turn to the Users tab, right-click on the user you want to switch to and choose Connect from the Context menu (see screen 2). You can also send a message to another user from the context menu or the button at the bottom right - it will appear in a message box on their Desktop.
If you're a command prompt fan, you will know you can get help on most commands by typing the command followed by I? If you'd rather have the luxury of the Windows help interface to explore the intricacies of the command prompt, then it has its very own help tile. Rather than try to find this in the Help and Support centre, type HH "ntcmds.chm" in the Start, Run box.
Here's one we first published 10 years ago for Windows 95, and it still works in XP. If you've built your own PC, you can customise the General tab of System Properties as follows. Create a file in Notepad as follows, putting your own text to the right of the equal signs:
Manufacturer=I made it myself Model=The Best Yet
[Support Information] Linel=In case of difficulty Line2=Ask the people Line3=At CA Hands On Line4=You can have up to ten lines of this Save this as oeminfo.ini in
C:\windows\system32. As a further touch create a bitmap 180 pixels wide by 114 high or smaller. Save this in the same folder as oemlogo.bmp. The text and image will then appear in System Properties, with the support information appearing when you click the button.
