Default Windows XP on my HP laptop

I have installed openS USE 11.2 along with Windows XP on my HP laptop. Currently, I am using the GNOME desktop environment. Everything is running
fine and I am enjoying my experience with Linux and open source. But there are two small issues that I am experiencing with this installation. The first is that I am unable to 'click' by tapping on the touch pad.

I have tested this while working on Windows XP and the touch pad works fine.
So it's not a hardware issue for sure. Second, I would need your help to change
the shortcut key to show the desktop. Currently, I use 'Ctrl+Alt+D' but, instead, want the shortcut to work with 'Alt+D'. Please help.

To activate 'click' using the touch pad you need to go to GNOME Control Center --> Hardware --+ Mouse. This will open 'Mouse Preferences'. Here, you need to go to the third tab named 'Touchpad'. On this

tab, put a check mark on the option: 'Enable mouse clicks with touchpad'. By default, this

Option is unchecked. Now, to resolve your second issue, you again need to open the GNOME Control Center --> Personal. This will open 'Keyboard shortcuts'. Scroll down to 'Accessibility' and click once on 'Show Desktop'. You will be asked to punch in the new shortcut key. Now you can press the' Alt+D' keys to make it the new shortcut command.

I have a laptop with 2 GB of RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for a long time. It worked fine with around 10,000 mails in my inbox and about 70,000 mails in other folders. Recently, I updated it with the latest version 3.1.9. Ever since, whenever I start Thunderbird, it uses about 60 per cent of the CPU and lots of RAM. In spite of the above configuration, my laptop gets too slow to work on. I checked the load average and found that it is around 10 per cent. There is no error message provided by Thunderbird nor can I see the application performing any task. I closed the application and waited till the system became normal, and then restarted Thunderbird. But again it used up all CPU and memory resources. Can you please help me to resolve this issue?

The high resource usage by Mozilla Thunderbird is probably because it's the first time it is indexing your e-mails. You can go to 'Tools --> Activity Manager'. Here you can see what exactly Thunderbird is doing to consume so much of the resources. Let the process complete before you start doing anything else. Hope this resolves your issue.

A few days back, I got an old IDE Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300 GB HDD from one of my friends. I thought of using the hard disk drive to build a FreeNAS server.
I tried installing it from the install CD but I am getting the error message shown below. I have tried nearly everything and have searched a lot on the Internet to find a solution.

FreeNAS is based on FreeB and there are some issues in installation if you are not using the correct IDE c~ble. Check your IDE cable and see if it is an 80 conductor IDE cable. If not, then replace your IDE cabl with a good quality 80 conduct IDE cable. Try using safe mod for installation. That should al work if the issue is due to the cable.
