WD has an application called WD Align for these cases, but it was for 2TB disks that were used as main OS disk to disk data was not necessary. Also see the FAQ on the website of WD drives larger than 2TB can not be formatted in XP (32 bit), but cites the problem being formatted, not being recognized: you could format it in another OS and then access it to see if you can.
You are mixing the WD Advanced Format 4K sectors compared to typically 512 bytes, which has the solution for WinXP WD Align with the limitation of the current BIOS are only able to work with tables DOS partition , limiting the ability of media to use to 2.2 TB, and limitation of some operating systems (Windows XP is one of them) to work with volumes larger than 2 TB.They are different concepts.
