The word Bluetooth, is named after the Danish king known as Herald Blatant, he is the user friendly radio occurrence wireless technology which was initially discovered by the Ericsson in 1994. This is a short-range of data communications protocol, which is also known also as the IEEE 802.15 standard. There are number of big organization, named like Nokia, Erickson, Intel and Toshiba which have produced the Bluetooth SIG group in the year 1998. After the forming of SIG group then many other huge organizations like Microsoft, 3Com, Motorola, and so on have joined the group and the number of participating companies has now been reached to 1500.
Bluetooth operates under the unlicensed 2.4 G Hz band and which uses a frequency for hopping to spread the variety of technique which is one of the two basic modulation techniques which is also used in spreading the variety of signal broadcasting. Frequencies are also switched frequently during the radio broadcast this would help to reduce the unlawful access or the other means of telecommunications used to cross the paths and cause disturbance. It also makes the Bluetooth contact more healthy and secure. Obstruction from other devices will not cause the broadcast to stop, but the speed to be reduced.
Advantages
• Interoperability
• Scalability
• Economical
• Voice/data companionable
• Allows for the formation of an Ad-hoc network
• Low power utilization
Disadvantages
• Short Range
• Low data speed
• RF Band is shared
The advantage of Bluetooth over the Infrared is its capability to connect 1 device to many devices rather then connecting one device to one device only. Infrared also requires a line directly to the sight in order to see to it that it operates and have a range of about one meter. Bluetooth developers have also stated that they are not intending to create an alternative to IrDA but many companies are now replacing their devices from IrDA slot with a Bluetooth. As seen that Bluetooth use now a days becoming more and more popular and IrDA is now being phased out, I do consider that Infrared will, in some way, still be there in the near future.
Bluetooth technology is found in many devices. If recently you have made a purchase of a Laptop, Mobile or PDA then you can noticed that it is an inbuilt Bluetooth enabled in it.
