Oh dear, I feel so foolish!! You are right the Realtek is not the card which I wanted. Device manager is now screening that the Sitecom Wireless network card with a warning. This device is not functioning correctly since windows cannot load the drivers necessary for this device.

Please right if this summary is wrong: After running those repairs you still get an IP of 169.254.x.y with an Ethernet cable connected to the router. And Windows says it cannot install the wireless driver. This might symbolize several reasons. If both problems are the result of one reason I suspect a non-Windows firewall or safety set. Do you have Norton or McAfee or somewhat else in your computer?

Hi Terry, The computer is brand new and I have not yet installed any anti virus or any other kind of security software in it. I am planning to do so as soon as I have net access. Norton 360 is pre-installed but I have not activated it yet. I have detached the Ethernet cable as I now know it is a driver problem.
Thanks again.
