Thread: Internet Connection?

This stuff really confuses me. So please make it as understandable as possible. Thanks. Anyways. To start off, i have a toshiba laptop. It has wifi so i dont have a network card. The problem i am having is that i cant seem to stay connected to a wireless network for more than 2 hours. It either says "limited access" or it simply disconnects. I have a dsl box but it's being used by my other computer. However, i do manage to connect to it. The thing is, it's only 3 rooms away and it still disconnects very often. When it disconnects from that one, i connect to my neighbors network, but that doesnt work out so good either. (By the way, the dsl box i have is a westell one, that verizon internet sends. I hear those are really crappy. ) I want to know what the problem is. Do i need to buy a new dsl box so it can send a stronger signal? or is it my laptop that i have to buy a network card for? ORR do i need to set a password on my dsl box. (if so, how?!?!?) please help, thanks!!

it sounds like you just need a new router cause your probably just too far or its old and just loses connection too easily

If you want a better signal then you would buy a new dsl box (called a wireless router). Your laptop has a network card if it can get online.

1) the DSL modem can be connected to a WiFi router that can be used by more than one system at a time.2) The best way to reach a WiFi router is to mount it high in the room so it can reach OVER appliances and other metal objects in the house. Your existing equipment might be just fine. Just get a tech to help set it up for you.

Well,try to use Linksys DSL Router it has very strong signal, besides, you need to establish WEP Key encryption on your wireless Gateway (Router) to avoid someone else to use your Internet connection, most of those new router comes with wizard or User manual, just buy new DSL router i suggest Linksys, Netgear, or 3 COM, these routers are good enough. it's very simple just read the manual and you will be ok.
