Thread: Line Passwords

Line passwords are used to control who can log into the router. They are used to place password protection on the console terminal line, AUX (auxiliary) line, and a few or every of five virtual terminal (VTY) lines.

You must install at least one password on the router VTY lines. If the password is not specified the line when trying to log into the router via Telnet, you will stop the error message "password required but none set." Remember that anyone on the Internet can be expected to Telnet to any router, so that the configuration line passwords to stop all but the best hackers receiving position.
