A device that allows computers to connect to a network is known as an access point. Some access points are connected to routers to provide network access while some access points contain Wi-Fi routers. Access points are usually used in public places or in offices in the case of a Wi-Fi access point, where one can directly connect to the Internet, using Wi-Fi connectivity. Though the major purpose of access points is providing Internet access, they can even be used for establishing a small network for file sharing or gaming.
