Laptop having Wi-Fi make it possible to work online anywhere a wireless connection is available. The technology depends on radio signals between the laptop and a wireless router, which sends the signal over the air from a cable, satellite or phone line Internet service supplier. This generally works perfect in a private residence with wireless service, where the laptop can be placed in a clear line of sight to the wireless modem, but situations change on the road. In a hotel, a coffee shop or at the local library, wireless reception may not be clear. Read on to learn how to enhance the range.

• Go to a central area of the room with Wi-Fi service. Sitting in the corner booth at a cafe make sure peace and quiet, but the wireless signal may not be strong enough, where it is closer to the router.

• Shift the router off the ground and place it on a bookshelf or on another non-metal object. Router signals can be weakened near by metal.

• Reset the channel on the wireless router by hitting the channel button on the component till the best signal is available.

• Install an external Wi-Fi antenna by inserting the USB cable in a free USB port on the laptop. The USB port appears a tiny rectangle about 1/2-inch wide and 1/4-inch tall. The plug only insets one way, so don't force it in the USB port.

• Purchase and insert in one or more wireless repeaters for the building where the wireless laptop is used. Such as cell phone tower, wireless repeaters bounce the Wi-Fi signal from the router to the PC, enhancing signal. Repeaters just plug in a wall outlet.

• Switch off cordless phones using the Wi-Fi router. Cordless phones may cross the range for the Wi-Fi modem, creating a unclear signal.
