An HP desktop having Vista comes with a network card, but can also buy a wireless adapter to hook-up to the PC to the wireless network. A wireless adapter allows placing the device anywhere in the house and connecting it to the network without wires.
Install the wireless network card in the PC. There are 2 kinds available that is an internal card or an external USB adapter. The best is to install a wireless USB adapter as theres no need to open the case.
Start PC. After logging in, the PC should automatically recognize the newly added device. If the wireless adapter producer needs drivers to be installed, insert the CD and install the drivers.
Click Start menu. Right click "Network" icon and go to "Properties." Click "Manage network connections".
Right click "Local area connection properties" icon and go to "Properties." A list of protocol options will open up for wireless adapter.
Tick mark on the Check boxes of "Client for Microsoft networks," as well as "File and printer sharing for Microsoft networks," along with "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)." Click on "Install" to load them on the PC. And after that Click on "OK".
Restart PC if asked. For a lot of setups, wireless adapter should automatically recognize the wireless network. If not, restart the PC. An icon in the taskbar having PC will be there connected to the wireless network.
