Laptop has in-built \WiFi system, enabling to connect to nearby wireless networks. They even have wired Ethernet network connections enabling to connect directly to routers, modems and LAN. There are several things that can cause issues while switching from a cabled Ethernet connection to a wireless network connection. Things like physical connections and laptop settings can be causing the wireless to not work properly.
Significance
1. If using laptop where an Ethernet network connection is not present or working, wireless connections can be located if the laptop is set to access wireless networks. If unable to shift from Ethernet to wireless, unable to connect to wireless access Internet or local networks.
Identification
2. Decide if the wireless card within the laptop is enabled. This can be accomplished by verifying the status of the wireless connection. On a Windows computer, find wireless symbol. The icon is shaped like a small rod with small green waves releasing from it. Right click and select "View Available Networks." If card is deactivate, when asked to switch on the wireless before viewing networks.
Connections
3. Make sure that the modem and wireless router are communicating properly. The router can experience connection time outs. If having access to the modem and wireless router, turn off the power supply from both the modem as well as router. Wait for some time, and then insert the power supply for the modem. Wait for the status light shoeing Internet connection activity to switch on. Insert the power supply to the router and wait 1 for some time before accessing the wireless from the PC.
Considerations
4. Remove the Ethernet wire from the laptop. Some laptops may automatically stop the wireless card or connection when a wired Ethernet connection is found. After removing the wire, verify the wireless card status.
Location
5. If out of range from a wireless access point, you might not be able to shift from Ethernet to wireless signals. Can see if in range by verifying the network status in the wireless signal icon, If the signal is not strong or there is no connection, click "Refresh or View" to see the latest networks in range.
