PC technicians are infamous for charging more fees to organize laptop for wireless networking, but paying these fees is totally needless. Organize laptop for wireless connectivity by installing a wireless adapter, then using wireless connection tools added with Windows. This procedure can be finished in 20 minutes or less.
Instructions
Installing a Wireless Adapter
1. Put in driver CD contained with wireless adapter in CD or DVD drive. Installation process will run mechanically. If laptop has integral wireless adapter.
2. Go through installation program by following prompts in software. In many cases, this occupies clicking "Next". If software presents you with choice to install proprietary wireless connection program, tick "No." Wireless connection utility built into Windows is usually superior.
3. Attach wireless adapter to USB port or put in it into ExpressCard slot when software tells you, or when installation process is finish. Windows will install drivers for device mechanically, and wireless connection icon will show in System Tray.
Connecting to a Wireless Network
4. Right click wireless icon in System Tray. Tick "View Available Wireless Networks" if XP running on PC, or "Connect to a network" if there is Vista or 7.
5. Locate wireless access point on list. Tick on it, and tick "Connect."
6. Enter wireless password to finish connection procedure if you are prompted. If access point is insecure, you want to verify that you desire to attach to it anyhow.
7. Start web browser and connect to website. The page must appear.
