Connecting a Cable Modem to a Mac

Once you've bought a cable modem for your home you'll require to arrange your Macintosh computer's Network settings. By configuring your PC’s settings you are giving the PC with the suitable information essential to connect wirelessly to your cable modem's connection. Otherwise, you can also connect your cable modem to the AirPort Express router by Apple, which shorten the set-up process.

Instructions

Attach Wirelessly

Step1

Go to "Apple" icon and choose "System Preferences" from the drop-down menu.

Step2

Click the "Network" icon below the "Internet & Wireless" part.

Step3

Go to "Built-in Ethernet" and then click "TCP/IP" tab. Click the drop-down menu after that to "Configure IPv4" and choose "Using DHCP" or "Manually." For guide setup, go into your IPv4 address, subnet mask and router detail pursued by clicking "OK."

Step4

Go to "Apply" button to keep the settings and go back to the start Network window.

Attach Using AiPort Express

Step1

Stop the cable modem power adapter into an electrical opening, and stop the Ethernet cable into your cable modem's Ethernet port and AirPort Express Ethernet port.

Step2

Click "Go" at the up of your PC's monitor and click "Utilities" from the drop-down list. Then go to "AirPort Utility" to run the operation.

Step3

Click "AirPort Express" from the exposed devices file and click "Continue."

Step4

Enter a name for your network, and make a password. Click "Finish" to finish the installation and start using your cable modem.
