Firewall Another component of security implementation in routers is a firewall. SPI and DPI are the two kinds offirewalls found in routers. A DPI-based firewall is a far more thorough fireŽwall that can filter out viruses and Trojans, where as an SPI is best against connection level protection. DPI is a packet level firewall which scans data packets before letting them through the router.
Other than that, make sure that the firewall has feaŽtures that can be customised to block out certain ports or port ranges for incoming and outgoing connections. The firewall should also be effective in filtering out data going to certain IPs.
